St Austell are through to the Cornwall Senior Cup semi-finals after a thrilling 6-3 victory over St Day at Poltair Park on Tuesday night.

The Lillywhites stormed into a 6-1 lead before Jolly’s Cornwall Combination League side St Day scored twice in five minutes late on to give the scoreline more respectability.

St Austell had been stunned early on in the delayed quarter-final when Terry Rowe fired St Day ahead but Will Tinsley quickly equalised and after Chris Reski put them ahead, the home side never looked back.

Carl Rickard made it 3-1 before half-time and in the second half St Austell killed the game off with further strikes from Mike Body, Rickard and Ben Douglas.

St Day’s consolation goals came from Richards and Danny Forde from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, the much-postponed third round tie between Launceston and St Dennis finally got the go-ahead at Pennygillam with the home side edging a 2-1 win.

Leigh Cooper’s Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division side now face a home quarter-final against Saltash United at Pennygillam on Saturday.

St Dennis, of the Peninsula League’s division one west, suggested a shock could be on the cards when Jacob Rowe fired them ahead in the first half.

But Launceston hit back with two goals in the second half to clinch their place in the last eight.

In the Throgmorton League Cup, ten men Torpoint Athletic held out for a 1-0 win over Witheridge at The Mill thanks to a goal by Lewis Pacey.

They will now be at home to the winners of next week’s St Austell v Ivybridge Town tie in the quarter-finals.

In the Peninsula League on Tuesday night, title favourites Plymouth Parkway moved up to sixth place with a 4-2 victory over struggling Tavistock at Bolitho Park.
