RUNNERS UP IS STILL RESPECTFUL

ST DAY (1) TORPOINT ATHETIC (6)

PLAYED AT NANPEAN FC

ATT - TBC

After the long hard season our 1st team has played, a massive respectful thank you must be given to every player, supporter and most importantly interim managers Joff Mallaber & Nigel Ellis for keeping the side together. Although not the right result the club is very thankful for all the boys for getting into the Evely cup final, which obviously means winning the Combination League Cup (for the second consecutive year) which a huge achievemnet for them all. So far the 1st team alone has played 42 games so far in only 39 weeks, and still have 3 remaining that is a huge amount of games in a small amount of time considering the horrendous winter we have had.

On to the game, report by Dave Deacon.

Torpoint completed their season in style with a convincing 6-1 win over JCCL Cup winners St Day. Despite Dominic Pullen giving the Saints an early 9th minute lead, once Dean Cardew's side equalised in the 14th minute and then two minutes later went ahead through the same player, Ben Applegate, there was only going to be one winner.

Before the half time break Applegate scored again for his hat-trick and but for the St Day 'keeper Nick Richards making some last ditch saves, the Torpoint No 9 could quite easily had notched another treble after the interval!

Eventually though there was no stopping more goals coming from the Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier League's runners-up as Liam Thornton grabbed a brace in the 58th and 66th minute before substitute Jack Wood completed the scoring in the 82nd minute.
