St Day to Wembley via 134 football grounds.
With football off limits for the time being due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the players, coaches, committee and families have been busy virtually visiting every football league ground in England, Wales and Scotland in order to boost the club’s funds.
The challenge was no mean feat, start at St Day Football Club and visit all 134 league grounds and finish at Wembley Stadium within 3 weeks, a grand total of 3458.6 miles covered. Due to the lockdown visiting every ground in person was impossible, so using a bit of St Day sophistication we decided to call our members into action, asking them to walk, run, ride and sometimes crawl as far as they could and then submit their distances. The club kept a running total of all members efforts and as we reached each ground information on it and a trivia question was posted on to the club Facebook page. On Sunday 21st June the club virtually rolled down Wembley Way to reach the hallowed turf.
Of course, Vogue Park is well known nationally as being the Cornish Wembley and as a result of the efforts we were able to raise over £800 towards the £7,000 cost of the recent work to completely level major undulations on our sporting pitches, thus ensuring a high quality surface for both football and cricket to be played on.
Further fundraising will be taking place and plans are already a foot for a football ground trivia quiz…so if you are a stadium buff, watch this space. If you would like to contribute towards the pitch levelling fund St Day AFC has a crowd funding page can be found here and is still accepting donations: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/pedal-to-level-road-to-wembley/backers#start. Furthermore if you would prefer to donation direct to the club, this too can be arranged. Please contact Mark Leah on 07875 596798 to discuss more.
Thanks for all the families that took part and to all that donated it was a great modern way to keep our family club together and active in this current climate. St Day AFC looks forward to welcoming all our community to any of our matches whenever they may return.
